Description

Please note: with the new WIDE sizes, we consider them to be more accurately described as SHORT. For example, the 110 WIDE actually has the same width measurement as a 110 STANDARD fit boot, but the length is shorter. This gives the 110 WIDE a more rounded shape.

Flex Boots are flexible, durable and easy to use hoof boots that are ideal for all equestrian activities including trail riding, schooling, jumping and driving. They function similarly to human barefoot shoes, providing the horse flexible, effective support whilst allowing the hoof to function in the correct way without restrictions or any discomfort for the horse. Flex Boots are ideal for first time users and seasoned barefoot horses.

Always periodically check the tightness of the Ball Rivets on your boots to make sure they are secure.

Let your horse feel the difference:

  • Superior sole design with correct break over point supports healthy hoof function on every step your horse takes
  • Exceptional traction on all surfaces and suitable for all disciplines.
  • Smart fastening system allows for adjustments to give your horse an ideal, comfortable fit without rubbing.
  • No Velcro or cables that can easily break or get dirty.
  • Flex Boots are incredibly easy and quick to put on and take off. Even children can do it!
  • Amazing drainage and easy to clean.
  • Designed to support a holistic approach to hoof and horse care.
  • So comfortable, they can be used for 24/7 turnout too!

Thanks to the careful design and advanced technology used to make these boots, they are suitable for use in any weather and terrain; with great drainage and water-repellent materials, you can use them in snow, mud, very dry conditions and anywhere in between. The all-terrain sole gives superb grip, and the boots have pre-drilled holes that allow for easy application of ice studs if this is required.

Flex Pads can be used in the boots to offer additional cushioning and protection for horses that need this, for example if they have thin soles or are recovering from laminitis.

Flex Boots are designed with the horse’s welfare as the main priority. This is why they work so well and are fast becoming the most popular hoof boot all around the world. Flex Boots work best when hooves are maintained in their anatomically correct shape with frequent maintenance trims. Since the boot sole is essentially a cushioned airpad, long toes, high walls or sharp edges can damage the product.

Flex Hoof Boots are available in 29 sizes, from miniature ponies to horses. They are sold individually; to purchase a pair, add two boots to your basket.

Each boot is supplied as a complete set that includes the boot shell with rivets, a TPU gaiter, neoprene gaiter and a back strap.

For your horse's comfort and a correct fit, it is recommended that the neoprene gaiter is always in place when using the boots.

Below you will find details of sized parts to fit each boot...

  • 80 - XS Neoprene Gaiter + XS Back Strap
  • 85/90/95/100 - XS Neoprene Gaiter + S Back Strap
  • 105/110 - S Neoprene Gaiter + S Back Strap
  • 115/120 - M Neoprene Gaiter + M Back Strap
  • 125/130 - M Neoprene Gaiter + L Back Strap
  • 135/140 - L Neoprene Gaiter + L Back Strap
  • 145/150 - L Neoprene Gaiter + XL Back Strap

*the above accessory sizing guide also applies to the new WIDE sizes. e.g. a 120 WIDE boot has a M Neoprene Gaiter and a M Back Strap just like the Standard fit.

If you require a different sized Neoprene Gaiter or Back Strap on your boots, please leave a note/comment when checking out or email us at admin@hoofbootique.co.uk.

Sizing

Flex Hoof Boots are available in 29 sizes suitable from miniature ponies to horses. FlexPony boots are sizes 80-105, and FlexHorse boots are sizes 110-150 in both Standard and Wide fit.

Flex Boots fit hooves that are +/- 5mm of the listed width measurements, and no longer than the listed length measurement. Hoof measurements should be taken after a fresh trim. Flex Boots fit a variety of different hoof shapes provided the hoof is maintained in its anatomically correct shape. This generally means small maintenance trims at 1-2 week intervals. Flex Boot recommend that the owner should learn how to maintain their horse’s feet between professional visits. By doing so, you can ensure that the horse moves comfortably at all times with correct and well-functioning hooves; your horse can enjoy these barefoot shoes for as long as possible. Flex Boots have created an online course to teach owners how to carry out the maintenance trim, details can be found here: https://www.holistichoofcareforhorseowners.com/

Flex Boots are also available in custom sizes. For horses with thinner or thicker legs, the Flex Custom Boots come with one size smaller or larger TPU gaiters and neoprene gaiters. Please purchase custom size boots STANDARD FIT HERE or WIDE FIT HERE.

Materials

The boot shell, TPU gaiter and back strap are made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), a material that is often called a hybrid between plastic and rubber. TPU offers the flexibility of rubber, but with the strength and durability of plastic.

Neoprene gaiters are made of 5mm thick neoprene with laminated fabric on both sides.

Rivets are made of steel.

Care instructions

Flex Boots are easy to clean and maintain. Simply rinse off any dirt and hang the boots to dry in a well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Do not store the boots in a closed space such as a box or in your car. Boot shell, TPU gaiter and back straps can be brushed clean and washed with water. Do not use cleaning products. Neoprene gaiter can be rinsed with water or washed in a washing machine in a cold cycle. Air dry only, do not tumble dry.

The amount of grip will change if the surface is wet. Always consider safety for horse and rider regarding wet/dry surfaces.

    Flex Boots

Thank you so much to Hoof Bootique for all your support to buy Flex Boots for my Shetland x pony. They have made so much difference to my pony. She is now walking across stony terrains with no issues and she is so comfortable wearing them, definitely got a spring in her step! Jig jogging across the Cotswold hills. I would particularly like to thank Gemma who provided very informative information and looked at so many pictures of my ponies hooves. It was like having her on site and I learnt so much about hoof boots. I am recommending you to friends, and wish you all the best going forward with your super helpful amazing business. Thank you.

This is my second pair of Flex Hoof boots for my driving ponies. I have found them to be a great fit, just wish they made them a touch smaller (75cm) for my smallest one!

    Flex boot wide

Published by Leena on 2nd Apr 2024

The description by Hoofbootique about these boots being ‘short’ rather than ‘wide’ is very accurate. My horse has odd sized feet and now wears a 145 standard on his bigger near fore and 145 wide on his smaller off fore foot. The 145 wide is actually in real terms also a very tiny bit narrower than the 145 standard, so the size difference is quite big. But it works well for my pony, he wears a Flex pad in the smaller boot and a very slightly thicker pad of a different make in the bigger boot. I guess towards the end of the trimming cycle, he will wear a flex pad in the bigger boot and an other type of thinner pad in the smaller boot. I had originally the 145 standard boots for both feet, as when trying the fit kit shell, it seemed to be fine for also the smaller foot with a pad. But in real life, even with a thicker pad, the boot rotated a bit on the smaller foot as it was too long. So he now needs to wear odd sized boots, time will tell how well he copes with this. At the moment all seems well, we have been through some mud and boots haven’t shifted. The best thing about these boots is that they do not make too much noise on the road, as they are made of quite soft material. The worst thing are the flex pads, I have the red ones and they do not seem to be very durable. We have only used them on newly trimmed feet for a couple of weeks in all and they already seem very worn down. I have had better success with oversized pads from other makes cut into the size of Flex pads. But other that that, the boots seem very good. If I’ll get some more of Flex boots in the future, I might consider the custom fit with smaller TPU gaiters, although we seem fine with the lower setting of the back strap on the gaiter. The back strap has been cut shorter and the pastern strap is fine in the last hole. The neoprene gaiters are also quite easy to cut smaller and they still seem durable after the alteration. I do appreciate the fact that Hoofbootique actually also allows you to choose the neoprene gaiter and back strap in a different size. I did use this option when ordering the 145 wide boot. After having used the original pair of boots for a week or so, I had a better idea of what we need. So far all is good. They are lovely boots and did not need any ‘breaking in’ (at least not for a big pony with a bit of feather on his feet).

    Flex boots

I absolutely love my horses new Flex boots. We are into our second 6 week trim cycle using these boots, and they have been super easy to use, clean, and dry. My newly-barefoot-in-front horse is totally happy in them - I wondered if he would strike out at them but they are so lightweight he does not mind. He now has a HUGE trot stride, and the boots have stayed put despite him throwing himself around, cantering about, and even rolling! We have now also got pads to use for the first 2-3 weeks after a trim, which has improved the fit when his toes are short. The help Liz gave me when I was deciding which boots to buy was absolutely invaluable.

    Flex boot and fitting

Published by Kate on 28th Jun 2023

I had been having a little difficulty finding the right boots for my lovely horse so contacted Charlotte, an equine podiatrist, who came to see us with a boot fitting kit, containing loads of different brands. She was absolutely brilliant and very thorough. The flex boots seemed to fit my boy the best, so I went ahead with ordering them. Hoof bootique and Charlotte made this process so easy and were both really helpful - even when only one of the pairs I wanted was in stock Liz at Hoof Bootique was able to source and send me the other pair in a separate package with no extra postage charge. They arrived within a day of each other. Honestly fabulous service. I have used the boots a few times so far, we are rehabbing so mainly hand walking on roads with some short trot intervals but they have already made a difference to my boys comfort, especially on stoney ground. I am only giving them four stars as I do not feel I have had the opportunity to test them fully at this stage but so far they are great. And I would highly recommend the service of hoof bootique and Charlotte, the equine podiatrist who came to help us (based in Yorkshire - I do not know if this service is offered nation wide?)
