Description

Worm egg count kit to test for infection levels of adult, egg laying redworm and roundworm in equines.

Good worm control starts with using worm counts and tests, only adding wormer doses as they're needed. This helps to slow resistance to the wormers while keeping our horses healthy. Using wormers sparingly should mean that they stay effective for those times when our horses really need them. Worm egg counts are carried out using the industry standard modified McMaster technique using a centrifuge to separate out eggs from faecal matter. Samples are tested on the day they are receieved with results sent via email or text the same day.

The product is made in strong paper based pouches that become the envelope used to return the samples to the lab. These have an aqueous starch coating that gives a protective barrier and enables them to sit safely in damp tack and feed rooms. A compostable label is included for post-paid return of the samples and a ‘peelable’ strip is applied with compostable adhesive to re-seal the pouch for return.

Once the pouches arrive back at the lab the packaging material will be composted on the muckheap. In a few months’ time the well-rotted manure will be used as fertiliser for tree planting in a new 130 acre nature reserve that Westgate has established on their family farm in Northumberland where the lab is based.
