Description
Pack of 7 spikes/studs with hard metal insert, for maximum grip and minimum wear.
There are enough spikes/studs to do 1 boot.
The spikes are to be attached to the pre-drilled holes provided for this purpose, where the sole is specially reinforced. There is 1 replacement spike in case of loss.
Once spikes/studs are applied, the shock-absorbing and joint-friendly insole remains completely intact, and the spikes do not cause any pressure points.
Assembly:
A hole with a diameter of max. 4.2mm and a depth of max. 9mm can be drilled. The spikes are then screwed in with a ratchet or open-end wrench until they are snug. Care must be taken that the spike head is not over-tightened, otherwise the spikes will no longer hold well and will be lost.
To ensure a better hold, we recommend additionally securing the spikes with an adhesive. We use the »Ergo» type «5039 GEL» adhesive.
Attention:
Please do not use a cordless screwdriver, as this can lead to overtightening of the thread and thus the spikes no longer hold sufficiently in the shoe and get lost.
Important NOTE:
When using spikes, we recommend that you only use new hoof boots with intact soles without abrasion, as otherwise there is a risk that the spike will push through.
Things to keep in mind when using studs...
- Make sure your boots fit well and your horse is acclimated to wearing them before you apply studs
- Always apply studs to both boots for proper balance
- Do not turn horses out wearing studded boots, as a horse could injure themselves and others with studded boots.
- When drilling, make sure the stud does not extend past the sole of the foot. This can especially be a problem on older boots with worn soles as it can cause pressure points on the inside of the boot.
- Use caution when installing studs in used boots, as the sole tread is thinner than when new. Studs may penetrate through older well-worn soles.
- Always use your best judgment when going out for a ride in slippery conditions. Hoof boots provide extra traction, but they do have their limits.
